Have you ever desired to begin anew? Starting from the beginning, this time knowing everything you have learned? Maybe if the foundations were laid better, maybe if the plans could have been set… This is the call of revolution. Whatever your politics may be, you will come across revolutionaries that wish what is, be washed away for what could be.
Revolutions are led by the young. It’s the quality of youth that mixes desire for action and ignorance that would see the word burn for their ideals. As someone once said, “ignorance and self-certainty go hand-in-hand.” The Nazi party under the Weimar Republic consisted of mostly men under 30, and a disproportionate number of men under 25. At the time of the October Revolution 22% of the Bolsheviks were under 20, 57% were under the age of 25. Mao used university students to fuel his cultural revolution. The youth see the world how it “should” be, but rarely do they understand how the world is.
“There exists in such a case a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, ‘I don’t see the use of this; let us clear it away.’ To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: ‘If you don’t see the use of it, I certainly won’t let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it.” G.K. Chesterton
Complex systems rely on unseen connections. Removing anything without understanding what purpose it serves and why it was placed there is a recipe for disaster. Revolutions are indiscriminate. They seek to sweep away the old with little consideration for their purpose. Originally said by the French artist Jean Missler but popularized during the French Revolution by Diderot, “Men will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest.” A declaration of war on the nobility and church that their society had been built upon. The revolution promised equity, liberty, and brotherhood for all Frenchmen, all that was required was the total destruction of French society. Their revolution was successful in destroying their enemies, however what rose from the ashes was economic catastrophe, mass starvation of the French peasants, civil war that killed tens of thousands, a new monarch, and finally an emperor who started a world war that killed millions across Europe. The revolution removed the walls that stood in its way unleashing chaos and death upon Europe.
Despite the untold tens of millions killed by these revolutions they are held in high esteem by the devotees of The Progress of Virtue (see my first essay for reference). Revolutions are not judged by their ability to deliver utopia, but on their ability to damage or disrupt The Systems. It didn’t matter that the guillotine beheaded nearly every member of the Paris Commune, it is a symbol of the far-left today because it also beheaded the king. The blow to The Systems of Oppression is more important than building a better world.
This exists across all of the VBs. Each VB declares a “revolution” for their world view. Meaning a new way of dismantling their patron System. The Fat revolution is a call to fight against western beauty standards, to tear them all down, and of course to fight against the dreaded White Supremacy which all types of oppression can be linked. “The measurements of BMI are inaccurate” they will say, pointing to body builders and athletes, “it was based on racist doctors only looking at white men.” Its truly remarkable how easily they swing the conversation around to White Supremacy.
The Indigenous demand Land Back! Stewardship of the land must be taken from the colonizer (white men) and given to the indigenous. The Indigenous possess a mystic ability to live with the earth and will heal it from the white man’s poison. Push but a little and they will explain the violent ethnic cleansing this would require. Most of the PoV revolutions would require millions to die.
On August 16th of 2016, officer Dominique Heaggan-Brown shot Sylville Smith after Smith fled from a traffic stop. During the chase Smith pulled out an illegal handgun, Officer Heaggan-Brown fired on Smith killing him. Smith was a life-long felon, drug charges, robbery, B&E, and other minor offenses. His last moments on earth were spent resisting arrest and pulling a gun on an officer. The PoV naturally viewed Smith as the victim. Smith a VB was being oppressed by the laws that prohibited heroin distribution, or barred robbery as a form of income. His death at the stormtroopers of White Supremacy (law enforcement) sparked riots across Milwaukee. Riots are a form of revolution, short bursts of violence against The Systems. Most are undirected however, and the community Smith belonged to burned. Some more thoughtful members of the community like Smith’s sister Sherelle realized this was counterproductive. In a speech she gave to the press she said, “Burning down shit ain’t going to help nothing! Y’all burning down shit we need in our community. Take that shit to the suburbs. Burn that shit down! We need our shit! We need our weaves. I don’t wear it. But we need it." Sherelle did not get her wish. Revolutions unleash violence indiscriminately. Her neighborhood burned; the Systems remained intact. 2016 would not be the last of these violent racial riots. The following years dozens would burn across the nation. They had the full support of the PoV, they knew what the riots’ purpose was: destroy The Systems.
On October 7th, 2023, Hamas militants broke through the Israeli border and slaughtered some 1,200 Israeli citizens. They killed teens dancing at a rave, they raped women in their homes, they beheaded migrant workers, they set fire to homes. Indiscriminate violence which they filmed and released onto the internet proud of their acts of resistance. For most the acts of violence were nearly unthinkable, but to the PoV they were acts of revolution against The Systems. Not only fully justified but a moral good. Decolonization is the process of removing the nonVBs. It’s meaning is hidden beneath academic jargon, its very nature is a bloody genocidal urge that surpasses any blood and soil nationalism on the far right. It’s a word that justifies mass rape, the killings of babies, and even genocide.
PoV is able to use academic jargon, esoteric to most, to hide their most insidious ideas. Revolution, decolonization, land back, these are terms we hear and pay no attention to. What do they mean on a practical level? Millions dead. Burn the world before them so that from the ashes they may build a new world. No act in service to this utopia is wrong. The Systems must burn, so must you.
There is no level of violence the PoV won’t excuse. On April 7th, 1994, radio stations across Rwanda shouted instructions to take up arms against the ethnic minority Tutsis. Over a million were slaughtered in the street with machetes or other farming tools. For most the blame falls squarely on the Hutus who took up arms against their countrymen, but to the PoV the Hutu are both black and colonized. Their sins can be excused. They were victims of The Systems. For the PoV ultimate blame can be placed upon Colonization and White Supremacy. The VBs are never to be blamed.
The “tolerant left” was always a myth. Tolerance is simply the first step towards cultural capture. First is the demand of tolerance, not outright banning a behavior. Do not ban our revolutionaries. During this step, the PoV will preach free speech. Next is acceptance, a positive moral judgment of the behavior. During this step PoV will preach platforming many ideas. Next is celebration, spread and cheer on the behavior. Viva la Revolution. During this step PoV will preach representation and days of visibility. Finally, they demand participation. You’re either with us or a reactionary. During this final stage PoV will call for the purge of any who do not embrace their ideas; death to free speech, platforming, and opposing ideologies. The revolution will purge the old ideas and embrace the new.
The revolutions never end. The Systems they are fighting are omnipresent. They are like demons pulling the strings from the shadows. No revolution will ever dismantle The Systems, so there is always call for more revolution. The embrace of revolution is PoV’s most dangerous beliefs. It offers its adherents permission to enact deadly violence against the nonVBs. Even the most heinous acts of violence will be excused by the PoV clergy (media/ professors). Endless calls to burn it all down.
Fucking brilliant. I agree with every word. Thanks for this.
Great post. I loved the panoramic overview of the problem. Too often articles get bogged down in detail.
For anyone like me who hadn't yet read the previous post, VB remained a mystery. I scanned up and down but couldn't find what the initials stood for. Only when I thought to refer back to a previous post did I find what it meant.
